Moody

This is from a great shoot I did recently with two really talented artists, Jamie Rae Miltchin (stylist) and Genny Tyhurst (make-up/hair). Our model was Sydney from Sutherland, absolutely stunning!

We started shooting outside and moved inside after a while. It was starting to get quite cold!

Up close and personal

I was listening to BBC News the other day when Platon was interviewed about his up close and personal portraits of the World's leaders in his little studio off the floor of the General Assembly at United Nations in New York past September.

I first got interested in Platon because of his name (Platon, in French is the name of the Greek philosopher, Plato in English). Then I became a big fan of his work! His use of angles, his talent in engaging his sitters and telling a story in one frame! He is a British photographer based in New York, shooting for the New Yorker, Vanity Fair, i-D, The Observer, and list goes on...

"Portraits of Power" was a 5 day long project where he literally had to fight the crowds to grab the leaders by the arm and put them in front of his camera to capture their personality in just a few seconds! Here you can see the photos and listen to Platon's commentary.

My favourites are Berlusconi and Chavez.

It's cool having your own studio!

Fun in the studio!

I love having my own studio! I can shoot anytime I want, however I want! It's pretty cool.
These photos are from a recent fun session I did with Ange, a wonderful, really energetic model!

More photos on my website

I just updated my website with one of my recent shoots.
We managed to get this chinoiserie- boho shoot done despite the challenging weather and our busy schedules!
The stylist is Raji Sohal, make-up artist/hairstylist is Shadia Makeil and the model is one of my favourites, Julie Rasmussen from Specs.

"Using strobes"

I got my hands on the new (November 09) PDN today and saw this great article about creating beautiful lighting with just small strobes. Of course it is the Strobist, David Hobby giving the tips!

When I found out about his blog I was starting to shoot for my graduation portfolio. I got so influenced by his work and blog I did pretty much my entire portfolio with little strobe lights on light stands!

"7 Tips for Maximum Impact with Minimum Lights

The blogger behind The Strobist shares some of his favorite tips for lighting on the go."

I love how he turns 'the ambient light problem' into an advantage by using it as a back light. He gives really creative and practical tips on how to create mood. You have to subscribe to PDN to be able to read the whole article or buy the magazine.

I would definitely recommend this latest issue of PDN since it's full of useful lighting advice this month!
