I was listening to
BBC News the other day when Platon was interviewed about his up close and personal portraits of the World's leaders in his little studio off the floor of the General Assembly at United Nations in New York past September.
I first got interested in
Platon because of his name (Platon, in French is the name of the Greek philosopher, Plato in English). Then I became a big fan of his work! His use of angles, his talent in engaging his sitters and telling a story in one frame! He is a British photographer based in New York, shooting for the New Yorker, Vanity Fair, i-D, The Observer, and list goes on...
"Portraits of Power" was a 5 day long project where he literally had to fight the crowds to grab the leaders by the arm and put them in front of his camera to capture their personality in just a few seconds!
Here you can see the photos and listen to Platon's commentary.
My favourites are Berlusconi and Chavez.
